The 1st day of June, 2025, marked the beginning of a month that will see me turn 45. Yet this particular day held a deeper, more reflective purpose. I began June with a deliberate intention, one that guided my feet through Ten Thousand Steps, a solemn journey and earnest tribute to a loved one, made to honour their memory and to send prayers for their soul to find eternal rest.

I allowed my feet to lead, hoping to discover new grounds, embracing the beautiful sunshine and the gentle breaking of sweat. I captured moments with my camera, not just the path, but of the solitude that cradled my thoughts and allowed space for cherished memories to surface.

I found quiet indulgence on this purposeful walk, a restorative moment in which I prayed for the soul of the departed. I walked as AdufeOkin, a beauty upholding a dear promise, yet also, a vessel for remembrance.

And so, through steps and stillness, I write.

ADUFE. Sounds like a traditional square Tambourine

Yes, your observation is correct for Portugal, Galicia or some other parts of Spain 😊 But I am Yoruba, where Adufe means someone who is loved and cherised, so much that people compete for the privilege of caring for them.
