• What a gift today has been. With writing on my agenda, I knew I needed a change of scenery, a place that would truly inspire. So, armed with my water bottle, comfy mat, laptop and journal, I made my way to Hamworthy beach. Stretching out on my mat, beneath a sky of the most exquisite blue, I began to write. The vastness above, the gentle lapping of waves – it felt like the perfect invitation to craft my thoughts into words. The sheer beauty overhead became the silent backdrop to my thoughts, inspiring every line.

As evening approached, the call to move became undeniable. The sun, a magnificent ball of fire, painting the sky in fiery hues, began its descent, pulling me out for a walk. I immersed myself in the vibrant spectacle of the sunset, each colourful brush stroke across the sky a moment to savour. On my return, as the last colours faded, two thoughts bubbled up, filling me with warmth: The nearing celebration of my 45th birthday, and even more exhilarating, the unfolding journey of Mindful Miles itself. This blog, this space, feels like a new beginning, a collection of moments just like these.

  • Today’s impulse, a decision to walk home from work, transformed a routine commute into an unexpected journey of 15,000 steps. It was a route I’d never taken on foot, and as the miles unfolded, the streets revealed their beauty, and I felt my own presence gracing those open spaces, each step a discovery.

That extensive walk, each mile a deliberate choice, culminated in the singular pleasure of a bath – a deep muscle soaking indulgence, a treatment for all the senses. I could feel the soothing warmth of the water, smell the orange scented candles, see the sun’s rays dancing on the water, glazing my skin with warmth and fire. I could hear the welcoming sound of nostalgic music, which brought a smile to my lips, its lyrics echoing familiar truths that made me nod in quiet agreement. Every touch of the soft, unique bubbles was a gentle caress, the sensation of pure contentment was almost palpable.

It was in this serene stillness, soaking in a moment that was entirely mine, that the lessons of the walk solidified. 2 insights came to light, born from the consistent success of these mindful miles.  First, the absolute necessity of prioritizing these walks, making them a cherished part of the day. And second, the power of leaving room for incentives – for when the body has given much, a beautiful reward like this long, warm soak is not merely appreciated but truly earned

  • The stunning, dark blue skies often feel like blessings in themselves but last night brought another source of immense joy: Twinnie’s very first hour-long walk! The joy was palpable as we playfully announced our “MOVE” had officially become a “Movement”, a delightful thought that accompanied me to sleep.

I woke feeling uncharacteristically tired, my energy for a walk seemingly absent. Then came an unexpected prompt; arriving with the delivery man, who’d left a missed parcel in the shed. As I stepped outside to collect it, and just as the sun hit my face, I knew what I was missing. The walk.

With renewed resolve, I prepared and set off, my destination: Caffe Nero in Bournemouth, an 8km journey.

  • The 1st day of June, 2025, marked the beginning of a month that will see me turn 45. Yet this particular day held a deeper, more reflective purpose. I began June with a deliberate intention, one that guided my feet through Ten Thousand Steps, a solemn journey and earnest tribute to a loved one, made to honour their memory and to send prayers for their soul to find eternal rest.

I allowed my feet to lead, hoping to discover new grounds, embracing the beautiful sunshine and the gentle breaking of sweat. I captured moments with my camera, not just the path, but of the solitude that cradled my thoughts and allowed space for cherished memories to surface.

I found quiet indulgence on this purposeful walk, a restorative moment in which I prayed for the soul of the departed. I walked as AdufeOkin, a beauty upholding a dear promise, yet also, a vessel for remembrance.

And so, through steps and stillness, I write.

  • With a week-long holiday on the horizon, my thoughts naturally turn to how best to spend that precious time. This introspection has led me to reflect on the tapestry of activities I’ve woven into my life recently, each step a story in itself. My adventures have often begun with the simplest of intentions, like the time I walked 9km just to lay on a wooden bench in the park and soak in the sun’s warmth. Sometimes, the impetus for movement comes from unexpected places.

The path hasn’t always been smooth. I recall a day where I wrestled with procrastination and emerged victorious, Feeling low on energy, an unusual nudge from a postman dropping off a missed parcel in the shed was all it took to get me walking. There was another day. Pregnant with rain, when I chose to turn the setback into a slingshot, prioritizing sleep and waking up refreshed, ready for my walk as the skies coincidentally cleared. And then, there was a time I truly overcame the elements, going for my walk in the rain, clothed not just in a raincoat, but in pure determination. A powerful lesson learned: the hardest part of any self-improvement journey is simply showing up.

I’ve also had the joy of capturing beautiful moments during my walks. I vividly remember stopping dead in my tracks once to photograph a stunning leopard moth, perched perfectly on a soft, low branch. Another memorable outing saw me walk a beautiful 8km from Poole to Caffe Nero in Bournemouth on a bright, sunny day, soaking in the coastal charm. These journeys have also been deeply personal. On June 1st, I embarked on a 10,000-step walk to honour the memory of a loved one, someone truly special who taught me the simple pleasure of tea without sugar.

My efforts have even extended to other achievements, like winning the Tokyo Adizero Gold, for my home city, through a combination of walking, running & trail running. And most recently, with the rain pouring outside, I found pure joy dancing my way to 8,000 steps right in my own living room. Each of these experiences, whether a planned trek or an impromptu dance, highlights the diverse ways I’ve embraced movement and discovery. As my holiday approaches, I’m excited to see where my next steps will take me.

  • Hi, I’m Olu and this is Mindful Miles – my personal space for exploring life through Movement, Joy and Reflection.

For me, movement isn’t just about steps: it’s the rhythm of life itself. Whether it’s the quiet strength of walking 15,000 steps home after a day’s work, the sheer exhilaration of dancing freely in my living room, or finding peace on a bike ride through my local streets, I believe our bodies are incredible vessels for connection and understanding. I’ve discovered immense joy in these moments – moments that ground me, energize me, and remind me of the beauty that surrounds us, even in the most familiar places.

This blog is where I share those journeys, the insights gained, and the quiet reflections that emerge from motion and stillness. From honouring a loved one with purposeful steps to simply finding the magic in a sunny walk, I aim to uncover the layers of well-being that movement brings. As I embrace this new, vibrant chapter, I invite you to join me on this path.

Let’s find strength in our steps, embrace the joy in every stride, and allow moments of reflection to guide us toward a more peaceful and fulfilling life.

Welcome to the journey of Mindful Miles.
